Just to be difficult (Spoilers for a preview of BFTC 2)

There is a preview up at IGN of Battle for the Cowl 2 that appears to make it clear (by means of those little POV boxes) that the murderous Batman is Jason Todd.

Now, I'm wondering about this. Obviously all I've read is the preview, and possibly the actual issue (which I won't have in my hands until the end of the month) may answer these concerns. But in any case...

First, I think everyone pretty much assumed that the gun-toting Batman from the teaser was Jason anyway. So there's the whole thing where a story leads you in one direction because it's the wrong direction, which makes me wonder whether this is misdirection.

Second, I'm not sure how BFTC relates time-wise to other books, but the last time we saw Jason he was using a cane and apparently had not yet recovered from being shot in the leg. Of course if more time has elapsed than I'm thinking, this isn't a consideration. But if it hasn't, this Batman doesn't seem to be limping or favoring a sore leg.

Finally, this may be a bit vague, but the voice just seems "off" if it's supposed to be Jason. For one thing, it's too formal. Jason's intelligent, but he's never used that sort of educated speech pattern--the word choices seem uncharacteristic and the grammar is rather precise, the speaker is humorless, and he uses almost no colloquialisms. "I didn't like being constrained by Batman's ideologies." Does that sound like Jason Todd? The speaker also seems fairly distanced from the situation, and while Jason is certainly capable of that, I'm not sure he'd be able to in this situation.

So, while I'd say it's apparent that we're supposed to think that this is Jason (and possibly Dick and Tim are also supposed to think that), there are signs that this may not actually be the case. Depending on the subtlety of the writing, of course.
